Ragamala Dance and Rudresh Mahanthappa collaborated on a project commissioned by the Walker Art Center and others, with world premiere performances at the Walker May 15-18, 2014. Even in rehearsal, it was clear this would be a spectacular performance, from the improvising of the dancers and musicians to the lighting. Even in practice garb, the dancers were elegant as they merged traditional South Indian dance with American jazz and carnatic musical forms.
